Educational Programs

>> Bank Street - School for Children and Family Center
Located on W. 112th St., this college of education also has a small program for children.

>> Barnard College Center for Toddler Development
A parent/toddler program. The Center enrolls toddlers in a program for the academic year (mid-September through the end of April). Children come to the center for weekly play groups and families participate in research on children's development. To be eligible for the Center's programs, toddlers must be between 19-30 months in September (children must be born prior to Feb. 15). Contact the Toddler Center at (212) 854-8275, to obtain a brochure. Applications are taken beginning in September for enrollment the following year.

>> St. John the Divine - Adults and Children in Trust
Located on 1047 Amsterdam Ave. (@ W. 111th St.), they offer a surprizingly affordable parent/todler program - it is not a drop off program.
The A.C.T. Early Years Programs offer a first-time group experience for toddlers, parents or caregivers. Ninety-minute classes allow toddlers and adults to explore their environment in a group setting. Classes are kept small--eight pairs for each teacher--to permit instructors to work with each pair at their own pace. Classes are designed so children interact with others their own age (within 6 months), and so that parents/caregivers can meet other neighborhood parents/caregivers with young children. Caregivers experience new techniques of teaching toddlers art and games, and working with other children. Classes begin in A.C.T.'s spacious gymnasium, located in the Cathedral undercroft and then move to the toddler-friendly room.
They also offer an Indoor Play Station (see the bottom of their web page) that may be a good alternative to
playspaceny.com's offering.

The new Discovery Room offers families, and especially children ages 5–12, a gateway to the wonders of the Museum and a hands-on, behind-the-scenes look at its science. For the rest of us who are younger, its better to look and not touch. Get the yearly membership since you can't see everything in one day and you'll want to hole up here on any cold or rainy days. Since you're not looking at art its seems OK to make a little noise sometimes.

>> OLOGY - the Kids site of the American Museum of Natural History
OLogy means "the study of." And here on the American Museum of Natural History's OLogy Web site, you can study and explore many cool OLogies. Its for the older crowd, but it seems like such a cool site I thought I'd add it now for the kids in all of us.
